Our curriculum takes into account that each pupil is a unique human being with a mixture of talents and needs. Through our curriculum we aim to nurture and develop this potential for each individual.
The Blue School affords high priority to numeracy, literacy and the ability of pupils to express themselves fluently and confidently. In all subject areas, recognition is given to the importance of first-hand experience and practical tasks in the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills. As a school we are not committed to any one approach to teaching but to using a range of techniques in order to achieve our mission.
Love of learning
By making sure lessons are fun and engaging, we aim to foster a 'love of learning' so that children approach their tasks with enthusiasm and confidence.
Teachers' expectations of what each child is capable of achieving are very high and learning is structured, relevant and stimulating to meet the needs of each child. At the same time, pupils are encouraged to set their own high standards and to learn to appreciate success.
Each half term parents receive information about the curriculum to be covered. On average the Infants (Reception and Year 1 – Year 2) are taught for 22 hours per week and the Junior children (Year 3 – Year 6) are taught for 23.5 hours per week.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Our EYFS department incorporates our Nursery and Reception Class. Activities and resources are carefully planned to allow for both adult and child-initiated, play-centred learning experiences. Please click here for further information on the EYFS.
Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
Key Stage 1 comprises Year 1 and Year 2 and Key Stage 2 incorporates Year 3 through to Year 6.
